Jill EVANSPlaid Cymru MEP Jill Evans has been selected to top her party's list for next year's European elections.

Marc Jones was elected second on the list in the internal poll, followed by Steven Cornelius and Ioan Bellin.

Leanne Wood AM, the Plaid Cymru leader, congratulated Ms Evans  on topping the poll following weeks of hustings events for party members.  Leanne added that she expected Plaid Cymru's distinguished record of putting the Welsh national interest first to continue when Jill Evans  is re-elected at next year's poll.

"Whether it has been campaigning for funding to tackle the high levels of youth unemployment in Wales, championing Welsh produce on the European market, public procurement or defending the rural economy, Plaid Cymru has always fought hard for the Welsh national interest," said Leanne Wood.

"Consistently we have put the needs of the people of Wales before all else.  After the petty point-scoring we saw in Westminster during the recent vote to shrink the European budget which would inevitably hit Wales hard, it is vital that Wales has representation in Europe from a party that will always put Wales first.

Parlement européen. Jill EVANS : Plaid MEP regrets failure to set stringent renewable energy target

Jill EVANSEFA/Plaid MEP Jill Evans has expressed her disappointment at MEP's failure to adopt a strict target for renewable energy use in Europe by 2030.

MEPs were voting on a report in Strasbourg setting out their position on Europe's renewable energy policy.

Jill Evans and her group colleagues had been calling for an ambitious target of 40-45% energy from renewable sources by 2030, but this was rejected. MEPs did however agree that targets for renewable energy use in 2030 should be binding.

There was also backing for national support schemes such as feed-in tariffs, which have proved so important in Wales.

François ALFONSIMEP François Alfonsi has called for a joint effort between the European Commission and Europe's nations and regions to protect Europe's endangered languages and promote language diversity.

Mr Alfonsi spoke as he presented a draft of his report on Europe's endangered languages and linguistic diversity to the European Parliament's Culture Committee today in Brussels.

François Alfonsi is the European Parliament's only Corsican-speaking MEP and this is the European Parliament's first detailed study of the issue of language diversity and protecting endangered languages in Europe in a number of years. There has been no major, in-depth international study into endangered languages since the 1990s.

The report regrets the drastic cuts to EU funding available for promoting language diversity over the past decade. It calls on the EU and its Member States to 'commit wholeheartedly to a policy of protection and promotion that is up to the job of preserving the diversity of the EU's linguistic and cultural heritage by supporting ambitious protection policies within the language communities concerned.'

Parlement européen : Facebook terms and conditions unfair and not valid in Europe

Mark DemesmaekerA reply from the European Commission to a question submitted by an EFA Member of the European Parliament shows that a lot of terms and conditions Facebook imposes on its European users are not valid in the European Union. MEP Mark Demesmaeker said: "Even more so, some of the conditions are outright unfair. That even American giants like Facebook are bound by European consumer rights proves the use of the EU."

At the registration of a new Facebook account one has to agree with the "statement of rights and responsibilities" which contains terms and conditions with legally binding commitments for the user. According to these terms and conditions, claims brought against the company fall under Californian Law. Thereby Facebook requires the consumer to grant exclusive jurisdiction to the court in Santa Clara County, near the company’s headquarters in the United States.
